The M27 infantry automatic rifle is on display at Heckler & Koch's booth at the Modern Day Marine exposition.
Contractors, civilians and Marines come to the Modern Day Marine exposition for many purposes. Marines, though, tend to want to see what they might find in their hands next while deployed.
For that reason, it’s not a surprise to see plenty of buzz around Heckler & Koch’s booth here. The weapons maker is displaying its new5.56mm M27 infantry automatic rifle, which the Marine Corps has decided to field in limited quantity next year as a replacement in some formations for the M249 squad automatic weapon.
The weapon is pictured here with a larger 6.8mm barrel that H&K developed in case the military ever decides to field larger ammunition. Such a swap would be costly, but weapons makers are prepared just in case.
